Layout and Design for Publication – Course topics included, design and
Layout principles typography, page layout principles, the marriage of text
and graphics, commercial print publishing practices. Design of multiple
page layouts. Applications used – Page Maker 6.5 and Quark Express 4.0.
Skills acquired, color theory, type formatting, image manipulation,
and commercial print concepts.
2-D Illustration & Image Editing – focused on image manipulation,
advanced typography, composition theory and graphic design practice.
Other course topics included, preparing images for web, preparing
images for print, animating images. Applications used – Photoshop 7,
Image Ready 3.0 and Illustrator 9. Skills acquired, working with selections,
layers masks and channels actions, styles, scanning photos optimizing for web
delivery combining vector and raster images, and photo retouching.
3-D Animation & Modeling – Perspective-drawing techniques, working
in a 3 dimensional environment, and sound editing techniques, storyboards,
and design sketches. Applications used – Infini-D, Sound Forge, and Peak
LE. Skills acquired, modifying polygonal objects, creating 3-D models from
2-D digital images, animating 3-D models, sound editing.
Delivery Systems for Electronic Publication – Studied design and layout
principles, web authoring, optimizing text and graphics for Internet delivery,
scanning, and publishing a functional web site. Applications used include
Netscape Composer, BB Edit, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, and
Image Ready, Skills acquired, transfer of files over a ftp server, html
coding, design and layout principles, optimizing files.
Multimedia Production – Course outline focused on the development of
conceptual ideas into digital audio and video, which will be integrated with
time based computer graphic designs, organizational charts, flow charts,
and storyboards. Produce an interactive multimedia CD ROM presentation.
Applications used – Adobe Premiere 5, Director 7, Peak LE, and Sound
Forge. Skills acquired, Creating a visually inviting and interactively informative
presentation for delivery on CD ROM and over the Internet.
